Doreen was born and raised in England and has performed since she was 5. She studied and competed in all forms of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, musical theatre, ballroom and Latin American. At 14 she attended a drama workshop and fell in love with acting. At 16 she auditioned and was cast in many musicals and plays including the Bartered Bride, Barnum (with Tommy Steele), Cinderella and
Summer Holiday and was a back-up dancer for European pop stars travelling all over the country. Still performing, she began teaching at 18 and attended dance, choreography and acting workshops. She married Peter in her early twenties and 2 years later, their daughter, Sharon was born. 10 months later the family moved to Canada.
In Canada she took ballet classes with Dr. Ruth Carse and later she and Peter became board members of the Alberta Ballet Company. With the backing of Ruth Carse she formed her own performing arts school (Fort Dance & Music Centre) before moving to Edmonton and renaming the school, North Edmonton Performing Arts Centre—a group from the school toured Europe, USA and Canada.
Doreen has continued to direct and choreograph musicals, pantomimes, fashion shows and plays and still teaches ballet and musical theatre. She has “retired” on a number of occasions but the lure of the stage has dragged her back to what she loves most - teaching and choreography.
